Charmy's Army the Comic Strip - Weekly Strip

Leave a comment... No comments:

Here is this week's strip!

I want to thank everyone who came out to Space City Comic Con this past weekend and met with me. The show, for me anyways, was awesome. As I greeted most attendees, I heard from most that their comic con experience was less than memorable due to the various issues with the way the show was ran.

In a few weeks, I will be at Comicpalooza in Houston. I promise, this show will be the best comic con you have ever attended. Do not let the insane stories coming out about Space City's show sway you from attending another show in Houston. Comicpalooza is an epic, cannot miss show!

Sketch Cover Art - Red Sonja - Conan

This cover was the hardest one yet. The paper was GLOSSY!!!! The inking was a nightmare. I seriously did not believe the paper would take my Copic markers. The markers gummed up on the paper. Blending was dang near impossible.... but I love facing the impossible. Why else would I be chasing a dream to be a syndicated cartoonist?

I had to work quickly and keep the blending to short, quick strokes. I had to think out all moves beforehand. Once committed, there would be no going back.

As you can see, the blending worked, but it screwed up my markers, clogging up the tips. I estimate this cover cost me $30 in supplies to produce,

No profit to be had on this one!!!!

Sketch Cover Art - The Walking Dead

This sketch cover was so freaking hard!!! The paper quality was extremely poor. The ink had a "spider" effect. In other words, you could not use a brush to get a perfect stroke. The edges bled so the lines looked fuzzy. I was able to adjust my strokes, making them a little thinner than normal, Afterwards, I went over each line with an extremely fine pointed pen and worked out the fuzziness... line by line.

The results look amazing. But the effort took hours.

Next issue came when applying the copic markers. The paper could not be worked very long before the surface became soggy. Blending was next to impossible.

I have four more of these covers. I am in no hurry to crank out one of these any time soon! lol....

Sketch Cover Art - The New Avengers

These sketch covers are so much fun!!!

Here is my favorite cover so far. This one took about two hours and is the first cover where I felt that I hit my stride. Before long these covers may only take me an hour.... That would be nice... but I always try try and do that "little extra" with each cover, so that'll never happen. Two hours is about the best I will ever do.

I have a total of 15 sketch covers ready for Space City Comic Con. I am working on one more for the show if I can squeeze in the time.

Enjoy today's sketch cover!
